I am working with a non-law professor who wants to submit a grant
request (due at the end of the week) to gather court records,
mainly opinions and transcripts, on a particular topic.
I have tried to explain that this is a monumental project and that
this information (esp. transcripts) may not even exist in a useable
form and record-keeping practices vary widely among different courts.
The justification is that this primary historical material could be
incredibly useful to scholars in a variety of fields that would not
necessarily have anything to do with law or legal scholarship.
My question is, does anyone know if this has been tried before?
Fast responses greatly appreciated!
Many Thanks.
