SUBJECT: Acquisitions Institute

The fourth Business of Acquisitions Institute will be held on the campus of
Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia, June 3-4, 1993.
Sponsored by the Association of Library Collections and Technical Services,
the Institute focuses on the needs of new acquisitions librarians and others
in the field who seek an update of new methods and philosophies. The sessions
will also appeal to librarians expanding their areas of responsibility;
selectors, administrators, and others whose responsibilities are allied with
the acquisitions process; library educators; and vendors and publishers who
may find an inside view of library acquisitions and methods of interest.

Experienced librarians, vendors, and publishers will conduct tutorial focus
sessions and moderated panel discussions. They will address specific methods
of materials acquisitions as well as practical advice and techniques for all
libraries, with a focus on sound fiscal and business practices. The Institute
focuses on basic acquisitions of monographs and serials, and includes the
relationships among librarians, library booksellers, subscription agents, and
publishers.

Registration for the Business of Acquisitions Institute will be accepted on a
first-come, first-served basis until April 30, 1993, limited to 120 persons.
Registration fees are $210 for ALCTS members, $245 for ALA members, and $280
for others. These fees include programs, instructional materials, and coffee
breaks. Housing, meals, and parking will be available on VCU's campus in
